Of all the questions you have to answer in your lifetime...these 4 are the most important. Answer them honestly. Remember - there is no cheating! God already knows your heart and what your answers should be.

  • Do you know the Lord?
  • Do you know why you need God's forgiveness?
  • Have you ever broken any of the 10 Commandments?
  • If you died today, do you know for sure that you would go to heaven?

If you could not answer a definite YES to each question above, please keep reading...

Every person knows there is a God. Some know God for Who He is while others are blinded to that Truth. The Bible tells us in Hebrews Chapter 8 that God has put His laws in every man’s heart. God’s Law, known as the “Divine Law” is simply the 10 Commandments. An atheist may say, “there is no God”, but in doing so he has already broken the law that states “You shall not lie”. An atheist knows it is wrong to murder and he knows it is wrong to steal, so God’s law is already written in his heart. Had God not proclaimed the 10 Commandments, we would not know today that committing murder and stealing was wrong. It is wrong because God declared it in His Word and He wrote it in our hearts. It is His “Divine Law”.

God has given each of us everything that we have. One of the first things we received from God was our free will. This was first given to Adam & Eve in the Garden of Eden, and we too have that same gift. Therefore, it is our free will to believe in God or deny Him altogether. The Bible speaks of those in denial. Psalm 14:1 – The fool says in his heart, “There is no God”. An atheist is just another word for “fool”. In 1 Corinthians 2:14 the Bible says “The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.” Until each of us take that step of faith to believe in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, the things of God seem like foolishness and cannot be understood. Therefore, everyone everywhere knows there is a God. Some can see Him as the Mighty and Holy God that He is, while others have a diluted, twisted, illusion of who that they think He is. Ephesians 4:18 – “They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.” If you don’t know the Lord, stop right here and ask Him to soften your hard heart and open your blind eyes.

We all need God’s forgiveness. Why? Because everyone has sinned and broken God’s Law. Romans 3:23 – “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”. All of us have sinned. Romans 3:10 – “There is no one righteous, not even one.” When we consider our goodness and righteousness, we need to compare ourselves to God’s Divine Law – The Ten Commandments. Don’t compare yourself to another individual, for they are not God’s standard. Remember that there is not one righteous person. For example, you may not look so bad when comparing yourself to Hitler or Charles Manson. But know this – In the eyes of God, there is no difference. The Bible tells us in James 2:10 – “For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.” So what this really means is that if we do not live under the grace and mercy of God, we are the equivalent to the most horrible people we know. We have all sinned and broken at least one of God’s laws. To break one is to break them all. We all need God’s forgiveness.

We have all broken the 10 Commandments. Here’s a few to consider.

YOU SHALL HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME. If God is not Lord of your life, then you need to examine your heart. Is your god a hobby, television, internet, work, money, position, laziness, etc. If God is not written in your heart in bold, underlined and flashing – you need a heart check. God wants to be first in your life. Have no other gods (distractions, first loves, deepest desires) before Him.

YOU SHALL NOT TAKE THE NAME OF THE LORD YOUR GOD IN VAIN. Very simple…have you ever used God’s name in vain. Have you ever included His name before or with words describing vulgarity or filth?

YOU SHALL NOT MURDER. Most think this one does not apply to them because they have never killed anyone. The Bible tells us in 1 John 3:15 – “Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer.” So hating someone is equivalent to murdering that person.

YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTRY. Again, people think this does not apply to them because they have never physically engaged in a forbidden sexual relationship. In Matthew 5:28 Jesus said “whoever looks at a another with lust has already committed adultery in their heart”.

YOU SHALL NOT STEAL. That applies to even the smallest of things like a paperclip from the office, a candy bar from the store, too much change from the cashier, or even lying on your taxes.

YOU SHALL NOT LIE. Lying includes “white lies”, exaggerations, taking credit for something you didn’t do, or being misleading in any way. The Bible tells us that Satan is the father of lies. Next time you consider telling a lie consider this verse “All liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone” (Revelation 21:8).

How did you do? Remember this was only 6 of the 10 Commandments! If you’ve broken one (and you have) you’ve broken them all. God knows everything about you. He knows your thoughts, your actions, your motives, and your heart. There is no place you can go to hide from God. You may live in the delusion where you believe God cannot see you, but one day He will call you out and you will stand before Him. That day is known as Judgment Day. Hebrews 9:27 – “It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment”. Anyone who stands before God on Judgment Day will die a second death (Revelation 21:8). That second death has the penalty of spending eternity in hell – the lake that burns with fire and brimstone for ever and ever.

If you died today and came face to face with God to receive your judgment, would He find you guilty of breaking His Divine Law? Your answer would be yes with a second death sentence of hell. That is unless you repent from your sins and receive God’s forgiveness. There is only one way to receive forgiveness of your sins and avoid God's wrath on Judgment Day. That is through Jesus Christ and the Cross He died on. God’s forgiveness, mercy and grace are available to each of us through His most preceious gift to the world, His Son, Jesus Christ.

Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 John 5:12 – He who has the Son has life.

Romans 10:9 - If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Romans 10:13 – Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

God has made it clear throughout scripture that the only way to be found innocent on Judgment Day is to be saved in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Galations 2:19,20 - For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself for me.

God wants us all to come to know Him. God’s desire is that “none should perish” (2 Peter 3:9). God commands us to turn from our sin, repent (acknowledge that we have sinned) and seek forgiveness in His Son, Jesus Christ. To belong to God is to know that we will be in Heaven with Him if we should die today. That is our assurance from God. It is not a “maybe I’ll get to heaven when I die if God finds me good enough." We can never be good enough on our own. We need Jesus! Through salvation in Jesus Christ, our response becomes “I will reign in Glory with God forever and ever because I have been born again. All my sins are forgiven and forgotten. I will be innocent when I stand before God because Jesus lives in me!"

Dear God in Heaven –

I know that I am a sinner. I know there is nothing I can ever do on my own to be worthy enough to enter into Heaven. But God, you knew that from the very beginning. You sent your son Jesus Christ to this world so that I could be saved. I believe Jesus is Your Son, that He died on the cross for the sins of the world, and that You raised Him from the grave and He is alive forever more. And now Jesus, I ask you to come into my heart and save my soul. Please forgive me for my sins. Please wash me clean in your blood Jesus. Thank you for dying for me so that I can live forever with You. Help me to live a life for you Jesus. Help me to turn from my old ways so that the entire world will know I am born again. Thank you Jesus for saving me and for the comfort of knowing my name is now written down in Your Book of Life. I belong to You forever. I love You Jesus. Amen
