One day we will all meet Jesus
face to face as we stand before God’s judgment seat (Romans 14:10). For Christians who already know Jesus, it will be
a joyous day indeed. Christians know their real treasures are in Heaven (Matthew 6:19-21) and that nothing on this earth compares
to what is waiting for them there (Philippians 1:23).
However, the outcome will be completely different for those
who are not Christians. When they stand before Jesus, they will hear Him say, “I never knew you, depart from me”
(Matthew 7:23). Those words will be permanent. Those words mean eternal separation from God.
If you knew your
last breath was going to be 5 minutes from right now, would you be excited about seeing Jesus? Or would you simply hope and
pray that what happens next will be better than where you’ve been your whole life? You can be sure of where you will
spend eternity. God loves each and every person in this world (John 3:16). That includes you!
In the beginning,
there was God. God created everything, including man and woman (Genesis 1 & 2). Man and woman (Adam and Eve) lived in
constant fellowship with God. Everything was great, perfect, and God only required one thing from the man and woman. God had
commanded Adam and Eve not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil because if they did, they would surely die (Genesis
2: 15-17). Everything was perfect……until Satan came along and lied to Eve (Genesis 3: 1-7). Satan convinced
Eve that it was alright to eat from the tree of knowledge. Eve disobeyed God and ate the fruit she had been told not to. Eve
then gave Adam the forbidden fruit to eat, which he did. Both Adam and Eve were now sinners because they listened to Satan
instead of God. Through Eve, sin and death entered the world. Everyone is a descendant of Adam and Eve, therefore we all are
sinners and we are all separated from God (Romans 5:12).

Because
God loves everyone, He wanted to bridge that gap that separated us from Him. God’s bridge was His Son, Jesus Christ
(John 3:16). God sacrificed Jesus so that we would know how much He loves us all (Romans 5:8). When Jesus died on the cross
for our sins, God gave us the greatest gift we could ever have hoped for (Romans 6:23). Because of Jesus, we can be born again
by God as a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17-18) and be saved by receiving Him into our heart (John 1:12).
Jesus
is the only way to bridge the gap with God (John 14:6). There is nothing you can do on your own to close that gap (Isaiah
64:6). We all need to accept the gift of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9). If we believe in Jesus, we have eternal life. If
we reject Jesus, we will be eternally separated from God (1 John 5:11-12). God tells us in detail how to be saved: That if
you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you
will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and
are saved. As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be ashamed” (Romans 10:9-11).
If you are not saved, consider bridging the gap today. God tells us that today is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2).
We never know when our last 5 minutes will end…..we need to be ready for our appointment with Jesus. We need to know
Him now, so He will know us when we stand before Him.
| Dear God in Heaven –
I know that I am a sinner. I know there is nothing I can ever do on my own to be worthy enough to enter into Heaven.
But God, You knew that from the very beginning. That is why You sent Your Son Jesus Christ to this world. I believe Jesus
is Your Son, that He died on the Cross, and that You raised Him from dead. And now Jesus, I ask You to come into my heart
and save my soul. Please forgive me for my sins and help me to turn from my old ways. Now I want to live a life for You Jesus.
Thank you for the Cross and for saving me. I belong to You forever. I love You Jesus ... Amen.
